Description
If you're involved in transferring, archiving, or duplicating video tapes from Component or Composite video tape machines, then this Tektronix WFM-300A is just what you need to assure the best video reproduction possible. The Tektronix WFM-300A is a television signal waveform monitoring instrument designed to provide for quick and accurate measurement and as well as easy monitoring of both the Component and Composite aspects of a Standard Definition televison signal.
This device is in excellent condition. The CRT display is bright and well focused display. It has been fully tested. All switches and push buttons function as expected. All of the graticule lamps light up. It's being sold by its original owner. This Component/Composite waveform monitor was only used on a random basis and as such has accumulated less that 50 hours of use. It was used and stored in a clean environment. The outside case has very few scratches or signs of wear. The crystal clear display provides for a accurate and easy to read waveform measurements and monitoring.
Major uses of the WFM-300A include the monitoring and measurement of signal amplitudes of the both the whole and specific parts of either the Component or Composite video signal, inspection of horizontal and vertical synchronization pulses, time-base measurements, luminance to chrominance (Y/C) signal timing differences and measurement of amplitude and transient distortion within the video signal. Differential gain and color phase measurements are also possible.
Signals Formats Able to be Measured & Monitored
(Standard Definition Only)
Composite Video
Component Video
Betacam Composite Video
Betacam Component Video (Y, R-Y/B-Y)
Betacam Component Video (0% Setup)
MII Composite Video
MII Component Video (Pr, Pb)

A common use of this device in recent times is found in the video tape transfer and duplication industry.
Monitoring the video luminance and color signal levels, signal timing and overall signal integrity is easily and accurately completed with the wide variety of display and measurement features and functions provided. The operator is thus able to ensure the archived or transferred video retains the highest video quality possible.
As mentioned, the WFM-300A is a versatile device that offers a comprehensive set of Component television signal measurement and monitoring capabilities. As an added benefit, composite video waveforms can also be monitored in a traditional waveform display. A composite vectorscope type display is also available from this device for the Component signal. Thus, the need for a multitude of waveform monitors and vectorscopes previously required to monitor both Composite and Component signals can now be performed by this one test instrument.
A variety of operating modes are provided.
A Standard Waveform display can be used in either the Component or Composite input mode to measure signal amplitudes of both the color and luminance signal components.
The Parade mode can also be used in either the Component or Composite input mode to measure luminance and color signal amplitudes.
he innovative Lightning pattern display offers a quick and convenient way to monitor both the signal levels and signal timing of all three input channels simultaneously.
The Vector mode presents a traditional looking "vectorscope" presentation of the Component color signals allowing for traditional color vector measurements.
The Bowtie mode provides for precise measurement of timing differences between the luminance and the individual color difference signals. (Both the Vector and Bowtie modes are used for Component operation only).

Color Difference (R-Y/B-Y or Pr, Pb) Timing
Color Difference to Luminance (Y/C) Timing
Composite Video Level
Composite Color Level
Composite Color Phase
Composite Differential Gain
Composite Luminance to Composite Color (Y/C) Timing
Other Features and Functions:
The Tektronix WFM-300A is capable of transcoding the input R-Y/B-Y (Pr,Pb) color difference signal and outputting an RGB waveform for driving a component television monitor. This RGB output is available at the individual RGB BNC outputs connectors on the back of the unit.
A buffered composite video output is also available for monitoring the input composite video signal.
TV line and field selection is push-button selectable on the front panel allowing the viewer to identify and view individual TV lines in the input signal. This is a great tool for isolating image quality defects that may exist on individual lines in the television image.
The WFM-300A monitors the incoming color difference signals for amplitude violations and indicates an error on the front panel should one exist. Color difference amplitude excursions below zero lights the NEG GAMUT indicator while signal violations above 700 mV lights the POS GAMUT indicator, thus alerting the operator of color level problems in the signal.
The WFM-300A provides one Composite video and three Component video inputs. Outputs consist of a Composite picture monitor output and a set of three RGB component outputs.
